The Free-For-All Book Fair:
Established 2023
Reading
is for
everyone!
We envision a world where barriers to obtaining books of one’s own are reduced, so that chosen reading materials may bolster individuals’ intellectual lives, emotional well-being, and sustained belonging amidst a community engaged with literacy.
Our StoryThe Free-for-All Book Fair was dreamed up in 2023 by local pediatrician Dr. Rebecca Percy and elementary school teacher Shelby Williams, and put into motion through the hard work of a group of Roaring Fork Valley parents and avid readers. The inaugural Fair, held at the New Castle Recreation Center on December 15, 2023, offered thousands of used and new books to attendees at no cost. All-volunteer organizers welcomed hundreds of readers of all ages and backgrounds, who were able to take home and keep as many books as they wished. After the first Fair’s great success, the founding group contacted the Two Rivers Community Foundation (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) for fiscal sponsorship in order to grow and continue the Fair annually in partnership with local donors.
In 2024, we moved the Fair to the Glenwood Springs Community Center in order to have space to grow and serve more people. It was an overwhelming success. In 2025, we were able to welcome over 1,000 readers to the Fair and we aim to reach even more with each coming year.
Since our founding, we have given away tens of thousands of books for all ages to readers from across the Roaring Fork Valley region. All for free.
